What is it?

The Visa Debit Card is a smart EMV secured card, which is ideal for customers who want to stay in control of their funds and also make quick, easy and safe transactions without carrying cash. Because it is linked to the cardholders account, customers have 24 hours access to the funds in their bank account. Simply operate an individual Savings or Current account with any UBA branch to apply for a Visa Debit Card. Visa Debit Cardholders can use it to make purchases and pay bills anywhere Visa Cards are accepted, including in stores and the internet.

What can it be used for?

Your UBA Visa Debit Card can be used for cash withdrawal at any UBA ATM or any ATM displaying the Visa or V-Pay logo and can also be used to make everyday purchases at local merchant locations and web sites where Visa cards are accepted in your location.

How convenient or safe is it?

Your UBA Visa Debit Card is extremely versatile and simple to use. You have the convenience of paying for your purchases directly from your bank account, without having to carry any cash. That’s the cashless lifestyle! Yet, your card and your transactions are highly secured with the best card technology.

How do I get billed on the card?

Your UBA Visa Debit Card allows you to track your purchases on a regular basis. The details of the purchases made on your card, along with the date, merchant name and amount are mentioned in your bank statement.

What if I lost my Card?

If your UBA Visa Debit Card gets lost or stolen, you are protected against fraudulent purchase transactions from the moment you report the loss to UBA (Call CFC on +234 1 280 8822). you can request that it be blocked even from a distance once you validate you are the owner of the card. You may also consider checking on Samaritans Bay for your missing items.

How about the card maintenance?

The card is linked to your UBA account and its usualy valid 2 years from issuance date. You require a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for all ATM and POS transactions. You need to keep the card well and avoid rough handling the SIM part of it else it becomes smart compromised.

What do I need to get this card?

Once you have a valid UBA bank account (whether savings or current) you are eligible to owning one. The card typically takes 5 working days to be made available to you. You can only utilize funds available in your card account and every transaction done with your card will reflect real time on your bank account. Once you receive the card, activate it by resetting the default 4 digit number on your PIN Mailer to a number that you would remember easily. Observe that you receive a ‘successful PIN Change’ message indicating that you have successfully activated your card. Without activation the card is useless. 

How do I link my UBA visa card to PayPal? 

Once you have an account with PayPal you simply have to login and check the notifications that says "link credit or debit card". Then, enter your card details as requested by PayPal. Notice that the CVV code is the 3 digit code found on the back side of your card.

After linking your card, you will still need to request your bank statement for the past 3 months. This is because in the process of verifying your card by PayPal, it is debited of a minimal amount of money and a code is attached to the debit transaction. When you get your bank statement and verify the card with this code, the debit transaction that was effected on your card is rolled back and your money returned.

 PayPal bills in your PayPal selected billing currency. I recommend you use Euros as PayPal billing currency for its stability in the currencies market. Once these initial setup steps are done, you can start making secure payments via PayPal by depositing money into your card account at any UBA Business Office.

How do I withdraw cash at an ATM with my Visa Debit Card ?

To withdraw cash at the ATM, insert your card into the machine and enter your PIN. Select the type of account the card is linked to make a withdrawal and enter the amount of cash you want to withdraw. Then take your cash, card, and receipt to keep track of your balance. You have the option of whether or not to print a receipt. You might already be receiving E-alert for transactions.

      PayPal has the feature of withdrawing funds but it's yet to be opened to Cameroon.

      Hello Gilbert,

      With the UBA Visa Card, you can create a PayPal merchant account for the purposes of making online payments.

      However, at the time of writing Cameroon based PayPal accounts do not allow for receptions of online paymentss. Lets hope they raise the bar soonest.

      An alternative you can consider for receiving online payments is Payoneer.

      If you have a current account, you might want to consider downloading the official "UBA mobile banking" app. You can seamlessly link your card to it and benefit from the numerous conveniences it offers. E.g. checking your balance, topping up your airtime, inter account transfer, etc

    GOOD MORNING,
    I HAVE DIFFICULTIES USING MY VISA CARD TO PAY SOMETHING ONLINE, EACH TIME I EFFECT A TRANSACTION THEY TELL ME TRANSACTION DENIED. THE MOST RECENT ONE IS NOW, I TRIED MAKING A PAYMENT OF 90.000F ONLINE BUT MY TRANSACTION GOT DENIED EVEN WHEN I HAVE 94700F WHAT ARE THE CHARGES

      This blog is only informative and in no way a touch point for UBA customer service.

      However, what is the type of card you have? NOT all cards can be used online. So check with UBA card service again.

      Yes you would be debited 500XAF as UBA told you but that amount is UBA's own fees for using their financial services. Also, every online transaction has its own transaction fees so make sure you've got enough funds in your card prior to payment.
